Geir Dvergastein, Nord Pool’s Market Manager Norway, is now on his second period working with the company, having been at Nord Pool for six years during the 1990s as Head of Markets before rejoining some four years ago.
“I suppose you might say I was born into the power business,” Geir says. “My father was CEO of a small utility in Norway. My working life has seen me involved in almost every aspect of the energy sector from building powerplants, working for big utilities to selling power and working on the balancing side with Nordic TSO Statnett. That gives me a bit of an ‘insider’s view’ when it comes to understanding our customer challenges and needs across the board. It really is natural for me to see things from the customer’s angle.”
Geir believes that it is not just his background, but also his natural curiosity and commercial mindset that help him deliver the best for customers.
“I very much enjoy meeting and supporting customers,” he explains. “Obviously our customers have to earn money – and I want to show them that they can do that by working closely with Nord Pool. Pretty much every time I speak with a customer I learn something new; gaining a better picture of their needs and their strategic approach. That is vital so that we, as a power exchange, can deliver the simple, efficient and secure power trading and clearing that they need.
“Of course customers can see that we have a well-functioning power market today. But with more renewables in the market, increasing competition and the introduction of new interconnectors they are also very aware that they live in a world both of new opportunities and greater challenges. They need a solid partner offering user-friendly, robust and cost efficient products and services with areal focus on the customer. And that is Nord Pool, of course!”
