Marian Kilen, our Central Europe Key Account Manager, joined Nord Pool relatively recently. With plenty of change and growth in the power sector centred on central Europe, he has had to ‘hit the ground running’. No problem for Marian – his extensive experience with energy markets has helped him fit right in.
“Before joining Nord Pool I spent almost 15 years in the energy trading industry. I started as a short-term power trader and rose to head of trading, before taking on responsibility for establishing trading activity for Fortum in Poland.
“After that, I was managing director of the German part of PGE Group, trading power and developing gas trading in Germany, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
“I think this deep knowledge of the business and all the surrounding internal and external processes, really helps me understand customers, their needs and expectations.
“Despite the pandemic preventing us from meeting customers and new contacts in person, we still stay in close contact. I love that moment in a negotiation or discussion when a customer realises that Nord Pool can be not just a service provider, but their partner – here to help take their trading business to the next level.”
Being close to customers, means Marian is equally close to their concerns.
“It’s clear that customers appreciate our open-minded approach and ability to be agile – to listen and react to their needs,” Marian explains. “They see value in Nord Pool’s modern API solution and the support they get at every stage, from on-boarding to their day-to-day trading activity.
“That’s all great, but I also sense that, in the central European region, customers feel that full competition between power exchanges has still not been achieved. That limits their trading opportunities. And at Nord Pool we are here to remove barriers to market entry, not to reinforce them!”
Marian really enjoys bringing the technically innovative aspects of Nord Pool’s offer to customers. But she also believes that technology is nothing without the personal touch to accompany it:: “Customers trading in Poland like the fact that Nord Pool can offer Europe-wide trading using modern IT solutions. Our competitive edge is based on a high level of service and in-depth customer understanding.
