Stian Sviggum was appointed Nord Pool’s Chief Financial Officer in autumn 2022, coming from the position of Chief Risk Officer in Euronext Securities, the central securities depository branch of Euronext. As a trusted finance and risk professional, Stian is a proven leader in developing and managing finance and risk operations. His team has a wide scope, consisting of the core functions of Accounting and Business Controlling, Risk and Compliance, Clearing and Settlement, Office Administration and Human Resources. “My focus is on optimizing the balance between opportunities and risks, ensuring a financially healthy and stable Nord Pool, ready for growth,” the CFO says. In addition to accounting, business control and treasury, Stian’s team has several important initiatives underway, which benefit from his insight and leadership. Risk and Compliance include both the first and second line of defence (LoD), where the first LoD is managing Nord Pool’s margin model and collateral management. The Clearing and Settlement team ensures timely settlement and cash flow for power trades. “I enjoy embarking on complex challenges and having a varied range of responsibilities”, Stian explains. Prior to Euronext, he held the role of Enterprise Risk Management Director in PwC, as well as Operational Risk Manager at Norges Bank Investment Management. The CFO also has a technical background as an IT Project Manager in Hewlett-Packard, before taking on the role of Head of Risk Management Consulting in Aon. He holds an engineering degree (MSc) in Theoretical Physics from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. “I’ve learned to value uncertainty, both opportunities and risks, and to accept that you can’t control everything”, he says, describing his expert areas as being enterprise risk management, quantitative risk analysis and statistical simulation models. Stian characterizes himself as a people person. His responsibilities encompass office administration in Oslo, Stockholm and Espoo as well as Human Resources, supporting Nord Pool’s 140+ employees in 10 countries. “I enjoy working with and learning from colleagues. This is especially rewarding in a diverse company like Nord Pool with an employee mix of 33 nationalities from five continents”, he says. “I am very passionate about diversity in our people. I strongly believe that this is a catalyst for innovation and growth.” |
