Cooperation and implementation agreements to implement and test systems for establishing the day-ahead market were signed between CROPEX and Nord Pool during Q2-Q3 2015. This allowed the CROPEX day-ahead market to be operational as a part of the EU-wide Multi Regional Coupling (MRC).

On the same day CROPEX was designated by the Croatian Energy Regulatory Agency as a Nominated Electricity Market Operator (NEMO) for a single day-ahead and intraday market coupling for the next four years.
After launching the Croatian day-ahead market in February 2016, CROPEX and the Croatian TSO will intensify bilateral activities with Slovenian counterparties in order to finalise their MRC coupling extension project. This is aimed at integrating the Croatian day-ahead market via the Slovenian border as part of the EU MRC.
CROPEX also intends to launch in 2016, in cooperation with Nord Pool, the Croatian intraday market in order to provide further benefits to CROPEX members. Among other positive aspects the project aims to effectively integrate intermittent renewables and to prepare the local intraday market for coupling into the EU cross-border intraday market (known as XBID) which is expected to become operational in 2017.
