Nord Pool, Europe’s leading power market, has joined forces with Nordic Innovation Accelerator, Grid.vc, Fingrid and Lahti Energia to launch an international energy innovation challenge.
The challenge aims to find solutions for ensuring the future reliability of electrical grids in both physical and flexibility markets.
Teams of forward-thinking energy innovators from across the globe have just one month left to apply to attend the Cleantech Venture Day in Lahti, Finland, 12 – 13 June 2018, where the most promising teams will develop their ideas in a demo day and pitch them to an audience including potential investors (applications close 20 May).
And there are some great prizes to be won, including a comprehensive mentoring package and data licences, an invitation to pitch the winning idea at the Cleantech Venture Day London in October 2018, as well as opportunities for funding and corporate collaboration.
Nicholas Sharaf, data and analytical services manager at Nord Pool, explains: “The energy sector is faced with growing and increasingly fluctuating electricity demand, driven by electrification and the wider adoption of modern technologies, such as smart homes and e-cars.
“Smart technologies automatically respond to the price of electricity, timing their consumption to when the electricity price is at its lowest. As these technologies become more common, both the reliability of supply and the affordability of electricity are in jeopardy, as local grids are often not equipped to handle the strain of such volume.
“This calls for fresh ideas and offers a unique opportunity for creative minds wishing to shape the future of the energy sector. Through our international innovation challenge, Nord Pool, Nordic Innovation Accelerator, Fingrid, Grid.vc and Lahti Energia are calling these visionaries to action; inviting them to reimagine the way electricity is used and to present their solutions for smart energy usage. There are no ideas too immature nor too far-fetched.”
While challenge participation in itself can open many doors to venture teams, the challenge organisers have all pitched-in to make sure the teams involved will gain real value from the experience.
But remember, the application period for the challenge closes on 20 May 2018. To find out more and apply visit: http://grid.vc/challenge/.
