Pietro Rabassi, our Executive Vice President for Western and Central Europe, joined Nord Pool in 2016. He is responsible for Nord Pool’s presence across our new markets in Europe. The EVP holds an established record in the international business, policy and the technology areas of the energy sector. Today his varied professional experience is very helpful in dealing with customers and all other relevant stakeholders to build Nord Pool’s presence in the region.
“Almost any challenge that our industry and customers face will lie in a mix of these three areas,” he says.
Pietro has studied engineering at Politecnico di Milano and Alta Scuola Politecnica in Italy and at Ecole Polytechnique in France, economics at Milan University and pursued postgraduate business and government studies at Harvard University in the USA. Born into an Italian-Greek family, he grew up in Italy close to Austria and Slovenia. Pietro has lived in 10 countries so far, most of them in Europe. His mixed cultural background and ability with languages are a real asset.
“Our customers can have quite diverse cultural backgrounds and often speak a variety of different languages. Being able to ‘talk’ their culture and address them in German, English, French, Italian or Greek is a definite plus.”
In deepening existing relations and developing new relationships with market participants and other relevant stakeholders, Pietro’s department orchestrates and is directly involved in work streams which address Nord Pool’s strategy in the region.
“Our relations with market participants, policy and public affairs, shaping the needed offering for customers and participating in external forums raising awareness of the role of the power markets, are important parts of a collaborative effort from every team in Nord Pool,” Pietro explains.
He especially enjoys being involved in partnerships, new business development projects and mergers and acquisitions for the region. Nord Pool’s markets in continental Europe so far embrace Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Poland.
“Starting from a small presence in 2006 in Germany on intraday thanks to a cross-border cable, Nord Pool has been present with our full efficient, simple and secure power trading offering since 2021. We have achieved a significant presence and market share in the region, showing that there was, and still is, a need for a power exchange that aims to lower the barriers for market entry.”, says the EVP.
“We are in the region for the long run and aim at establishing strong and long-lasting relationships here.”
