No. 44/2010 NPS - More details on the market framework for the Great Belt Power Link

Nord Pool Spot has received the following information from Energinet.dk:

Pursuant to the decision made by the Danish Energy Regulatory Authority on 2 July 2010 we hereby include additional information on Energinet.dk's reservation of capacity in the Elbas market on the Great Belt Power Link. The market framework for utilization of the interconnector was also described in Energinet.dk's Exchange information on Nord Pool Spot's web-page on 15 April 2010 (No. 27/2010 NPS).

Elpot market capacity will be 600 MW in both directions, and Energinet.dk's reservation of Elbas capacity will therefore have no influence on the price formation in the Elspot market. (However with the expected dominating flow from DK1 to DK2, the capacity will be 590 MW in the eastbound direction due to grid losses and 600 MW in the westbound direction).

As a result of Energinet.dk's reservation of capacity in the Elbas market on the Great Belt Power Link the Elspot market exchange on the link will determine how much capacity will be placed at the disposal of the Elbas market. But unlike the international connections from the two Danish price areas, not all of the remaining capacity will be placed at the disposal of the Elbas market.

The capacity from DK2 to DK1 in the Elbas market will basically vary from minimum 0 MW to maximum 300 MW plus the Elspot market exchange that may occur from DK1 to DK2, please see table 1.

The capacity in the Elbas market from DK1 to DK2 will not be affected by Energinet.dk's reservation and will in general consist of the capacity not utilised by the Elspot market.
