Seasonal Greetings to our Customers!
2020 turned out not to be the year that many of us expected or planned for.
Despite the unpredicted challenges that 2020 has presented us, we have, as always, enjoyed working alongside our customers across the world over the past year.
We remain especially grateful for your feedback on our products and services and for your continued trust in trading with us.
We wish all our customers the very best for the festive season and the New Year in the hope that we may be able to meet more of you face-to-face once again, in 2021.
Nord Pool to Harness North Sea Link Interconnector
Nord Pool has been awarded a contract by National Grid and Statnett to deliver a solution outside of the Internal Energy Market (IEM) to provide implicit capacity in its day-ahead market for the 1,400 MW North Sea Link (NSL).
NSL, a joint venture between National Grid and Statnett, will directly connect the electricity systems of the UK and Norway for the first time, when it goes live in 2021.
Since the UK will not be able to access the IEM post-Brexit, NSL will provide alternate arrangements to offer capacity to the market.
Hans Randen, Director of Market Coupling at Nord Pool, said: “We are immensely proud to have been chosen by National Grid and Statnett to deliver implicit trading services for the new NSL interconnector. At a time of uncertainty in the GB power market, we see this as an important first step in securing an efficient market solution outside the IEM.”

MNA Landing in Poland
Day-ahead Multi-NEMO Arrangement (MNA) in the Polish region is scheduled to go live in January 2021, subject to successful completion of testing, final technical readiness and regulatory approval.
With this Poland will become the third major geographical zone in Europe to implement the day-ahead MNA framework, in compliance with the guideline on Capacity Allocation and Congestion Management (CACM).
The project aims to make the Single Day-Ahead Coupling (SDAC) accessible to more than one NEMO in Poland, while maintaining the general market coupling principles of capacity calculation and allocation.
