SDAC Closes the Loop
A geographical loop has been closed with the integration of south east Europe into the Single Day-Ahead Coupling (SDAC), thanks to the successful launch of market coupling operations for the Bulgarian-Romanian border.
On Wednesday 27th October day-ahead cross-zonal capacity between Romania and Bulgaria was implicitly allocated via the Euphemia algorithm, for the first time – with price coupling allowing the simultaneous calculation of electricity prices and cross-border flows across the region.
GB Power Market – Opportunity for Change
The UK government Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) recently closed its consultation seeking views on the re-coupling of GB auctions for cross-border trade with the EU in the day-ahead timeframe.
For Nord Pool, the core issue remains shared order books across both day-ahead and continuous intraday timeframes and between GB power exchanges. We have been a long-term supporter of, and campaigner for, shared order books in all timeframes - we think action on this front is particularly pressing in the context of the increasing importance of the continuous intraday market, as the GB generation mix continues to be enriched by renewable generation.
You can read our full statement on establishing a ‘level playing field’ between the power exchanges in the GB market across both day-ahead and continuous intraday timeframes, here.

Then, on Tuesday 8th February 2022, we have the Nord Pool Certified Compliance Course, where the dedicated team from our Market Surveillance Department will analyse all the key subject matter in the rapidly changing regulatory environment of the European power market.
Both courses are available as live stream or with in-person attendance. To find out more and sign up visit Nord Pool's Academy website.
At the Heart of Europex
Europex, the 30 member not-for-profit association for European energy exchanges, market operators and delegated operators, has re-appointed Rickard Nilsson, Nord Pool’s Manager Regulatory Affairs, as Head of its Power Markets Working Group.
Commenting on his appointment, Rickard said: “I am pleased to continue as Head of WG Power Markets within the Europex leadership team for 2022-2023. The energy sector in Europe is in the middle of transition towards a low carbon Renewable Energy Source-driven system and Europex has an important role to play in explaining and demonstrating the benefits of well-functioning energy systems based on market-driven solutions.”
