Svenska Kraftnät and Statnett have jointly decided not to build the western branch of the South West Link. The western branch was planned as a direct current connection between Barkeryd (near Nässjo in SE3) and Tveiten (near Oslo in NO1). Recent feasibility and cost-benefit studies have shown that the market utility of the western branch has declined significantly compared to the original analysis, and that the western branch cannot be motivated out of a market utility perspective.
The work with the northern and southern branches, which will increase the capacity between SE3 and SE4, will proceed as planned.
