Topics include:
- Introduction to power market regulation
This part dives into the two main regulations governing the European power market: the Regulation on wholesale Energy Market Integrity and Transparency (REMIT), and the Transparency Regulation. We provide detailed and practical knowledge on REMIT, Europe's first set of common rules for wholesale energy markets. We further explain the different types of mandatory data to be reported by market participants to comply with the Transparency Regulation.
- Inside information and insider trading
Details the prohibition of insider trading alongside the obligation to publish inside information. We get you familiar with the Nord Pool REMIT UMM platform, which serves as a key tool for disseminating Urgent Market Messages (UMM), and how it facilitates regulatory compliance.
- Market manipulation
REMIT prohibits market manipulation in wholesale energy markets. In this part, we explain what constitutes market manipulation under the regulation, clarifying the boundaries of acceptable market behavior. The course explores specific types of market manipulation and presents relevant case law to demonstrate how the regulation is enforced in practice.
- REMIT in balancing markets
This part focuses on the application of REMIT to balancing markets, such as capacity markets and aFRR – and mFRR energy markets. We explain how REMIT obligations apply in these specific contexts and provide guidance on how market participants can stay compliant.
- REMIT in algorithmic trading
With the revised REMIT in force since 2024, algorithmic trading in wholesale energy markets is now subject to defined regulatory requirements. This part outlines the key obligations for algorithmic traders and offers practical guidance on how to ensure compliance in an increasingly automated trading environment.
- REMIT Best Practice report
In this part we get you familiar with the REMIT Best Practice report, a sector review on how a market participant can stay compliant with REMIT in terms of inside information and market abuse.
- Market Surveillance at Nord Pool
We present the market monitoring structure under REMIT, which splits the responsibility to monitor between the trading venue, the NRAs and ACER. Furthermore, we look at how Nord Pool Market Surveillance operates and monitors for breaches of REMIT.
